While most children will spend a week or so at local overnight and day camps such as those offered by the YMCA, Cave Springs and other established facilities; some children will attend Camp to Belong - a special camp designed to reunite siblings separated by foster care or adoption.
Camp and recreation offer these kids a much-needed respite from troubled family situations, an opportunity to see new places, meet new people and learn new things. It helps build self esteem, leadership and social skills and offers a sense of belonging - making their childhood experience more like that of their more fortunate peers.
It now costs an average of $250 for one child to participate in the program. Some day camps can cost as little as $90, some special need camps as much as $1 000. Registration for Camp to Belong is $650 per camper or $1 300 to reunite one set of siblings. Our annual camp costs are now in excess of $100 000 to serve nearly 500 children.
Summer Smiles enjoys the support of individuals, businesses and corporations, foundations, service clubs and local schools and churches. If you would like to make a donation, organize an event or sponsor a camper - contact the Foundation Office to find out more about Summer Smiles.
