It will be lights, camera, action in Thorold on April 25. That night, more than 300 community members will gather for the Foundation for Family and Children’s Services Niagara’s annual charity gala raising funds for youth in care making the transition to adulthood.

“Making the transition to independent living and taking on the responsibility of managing your finances, home, and employment is a significant time in any young person’s life but can be especially challenging for youth who have been in care,” says Anna Bozza, Executive Director, FACS Niagara. “Funds raised through the annual gala are instrumental in setting our youth up for success now and into the future.”

Funds raised through the gala will support life skills programming for young people being supported by FACS. The agency helps prepare young people for adulthood by providing critical life skills programming, including sessions on healthy relationships, budgeting, and more. FACS also provides young people in care with postsecondary grants to help offset the significant costs associated with college, university, and specialized job training.

The Tinseltown themed event will feature keynote speeches by young people who have been in the care of the agency. They will share their inspirational journeys and how the support provided by FACS empowered them to chase their dreams. Additionally, the night will feature a musical performance by a former youth in care that is sure to bring the audience to their feet.

“The gala is such a wonderful event because it brings so many people who truly care about children and youth under one roof,” said Rhianon Burkholder, Chair of the Foundation Board. “We look forward to celebrating with them and doing some good for the community.”

The event will include a live and silent auction, a little luxuries penny sale, and a draw for two tickets anywhere Air Canada flies in North America, including Mexico and the Caribbean. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 each and you do not need to be present at the event to win. To purchase raffle tickets, please call the Foundation office at 905-937-7731.
